THE ORIGIN

Squidward Quincy Tentacles — the turquoise octopus who became the ultimate symbol of everyday exhaustion.

Created by marine biologist Stephen Hillenburg in 1999, Squidward was designed with six tentacles instead of eight — because even in animation, he refuses to do more than necessary.

Living in his Moai statue house between two insufferably cheerful neighbors, he represents every soul who dreamed of greatness but ended up at a dead-end job.

“I have no soul.”

— Squidward Tentacles
